Episode 117 - CEOs Part 1 - Why The Economy Can’t Handle Any More CEOs

Self-help books claim we can all become successful business owners. Could the world support that? Can we even support the CEOs we have now?

This episode kicks off a five-part series about CEOs, starting with a few fundamental questions. Questions that instantly derail our notions about CEOs, and whether success is attainable by everyone all at once. Questions like - did peasants really make less money than modern wage-workers? What if those peasants owned their own houses? What’s the median CEO pay, and what would happen if everyone received their salary? And how the hell did executives and wealthy elites earn 50% more during covid, while the rest of us were having our financial ass(ets) handed to us?

We’ll also discuss a Princeton study that came out a decade ago, which found that Congress always sides with wealthy interests, and the common voter has a statistical “near zero” impact on policy. Which leads to the ultimate question about CEOs and corporations: Is our entire political system really built for wealthy CEOs?
